“My father bought an elevated piece of land in Kirkby Stephen in the 1920’s. From there we have a 360 degree view over the Eden Valley, Stainmore and Kirkby Stephen town itself. In the summer of 2007 we found Mike and Ryan from their Internet address, looking for log cabins. They are very local to us, but we were unaware of their company. We half new what we wanted which was a non-residential summerhouse/cabin for our site.
Something special! A meeting with Mike and viewing some of their superbly crafted cabins, we went ahead and let Ryan draw up plans for our bespoke cabin. Ryan gave us full plans and building regulations and a quote, which included electrics and possible ground work costs.
The Cabin is in the garden of a house my father built in 1939 and therefore could be 50% of the curtlidge of this property. Work started in October 2007 and was completed six weeks later. The full team of 8 from Shire Homes were used in the construction, from a few hours to a few weeks in John’s case.
We are so pleased with the resulting Summerhouse. We are so impressed with the workmanship and care taken over the build and design of our cabin in our special place. We have amazing views from all the double glazed windows, especially the picture window showing Kirkby Stephens’ secret, Nine Standards Cairns, which overlook the town.
It is well insulated and roomy being 18 feet x 16 feet then another room 8 feet x 16 feet this has French patio doors, which lead onto the decking, which runs full length of the cabin. We opted for wall lights, these show off the light pine clad walls to their best. The Kitchen area is well equipped, and from which we are able to see our Red Squirrel feed from its lidded box. We call our cabin a “Grand Design” One, which we are enjoying every day.
A super cabin in a super place in Eden. Thanks lads.”
